Fear of the unknown

This painting captures the emotions I experienced when I first saw the results of the pregnancy test for my first child. Rather than overwhelming joy, I was consumed by fear, overshadowing the small glimmer of happiness I felt. Numerous questions raced through my mind, with a strict nine-month timeline before the baby's arrival. How would my body change? Would everything go smoothly? Balancing work and motherhood, concealing true feelings to meet societal expectations, and the pressure to display sheer happiness during pregnancy were significant challenges. At that moment, I felt isolated, grappling with the societal norm that expects unbridled joy when a pregnancy test turns positive.

Embracing change

This painting portrays a mother embracing her child, symbolizing what motherhood meant to me, especially during the early days - embracing change. Becoming a mother brought about profound physical and mental transformations. Responsibilities doubled, prompting a shift to a more flexible job, a change in wardrobe, altered sleep routines, and even a relocation from the front to the back seat of the car. Embracing these changes allowed me to discover the beauty of motherhood, finding solace in the embrace of my child, knowing that I mean the world to them.

Nurturing Bonds

This artwork, encapsulates the profound connection between a mother and her child, portraying a serene moment of breastfeeding. The artwork delves into the tenderness and unconditional love that characterize the unique journey of motherhood. Reflecting on my personal experience, during the breastfeeding period, I found it challenging and demanding, feeling more like a machine than myself as a new mum. The constant demand for milk and the extended periods of breastfeeding made it a stressful experience. However, I recognized the significance of this act and considered it one of the initial sacrifices made for the love of my child. Now, looking back, I find myself missing those moments, realizing how they have become cherished memories in the evolution of our bond.

Doubling Hearts

Upon discovering the positive sign on my pregnancy test for my second child, joy enveloped me. However, this happiness was tinged with the pressing question of managing two children when handling one was already challenging. Amidst the uncertainties of a secluded existence during the early stages of interior development in a new home and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, I navigated the delicate balance of finding happiness and planning for the new addition. Doubts lingered: Could I love my second child as much as my first? Would my heart have room for another? Despite the uncertainties, the pandemic chaos, and a world in disarray, my heart unexpectedly grew, doubling in size, as our second boy arrived after a straightforward nine-month pregnancy.
